Learn the art of Stranded Colorwork and add a burst of color to your projects! In this 2-hour beginner class, you will create a hat while learning the foundational skills of this classic knitting technique.

We'll cover everything you need to know to get started with colorwork, including:

  • Reading a Knitting Chart: We'll demystify charts and teach you how to translate a visual pattern into a beautiful knitted design.

  • Managing Two Colors: Learn the secrets to handling two strands of yarn at once, ensuring your stitches are even and your work doesn't pucker. We'll explore different yarn-holding techniques to find the one that works best for you.

  • Controlling Tension and Floats: Discover how to maintain consistent tension to create a smooth fabric and how to "trap" or manage the strands of yarn (floats) that travel across the back of your work.

By the end of the class, you'll have a great start on your hat and the confidence to explore a whole new world of colorful knitting projects!

Participants need to bring the following when they come to class:

  • Pre-work for class: Brim of hat worked according to the instructions provided at registration

  • 16-inch circular needle, US size 7 (or size to obtain approx. 5 sts per inch in stockinette)

  • Worsted weight yarn in 2 contrasting colors (yardage amounts provided with pre-work info)

  • Pen or pencil

Instructor will provide: Fair Isle pattern, along with instructions for completing the hat.
