Class Pre-Work

Some of our classes have some pre-work to finish before your scheduled class day. Find your class, open the description and click on the link for the prework pattern. Please call or email the store if you have any questions.

  • Pre-Work Handout for Fair Isle Hat

    Materials:

    Smooth, DK or Light Worsted weight yarn in two contrasting colors (approx. 130 yards of main color and 50 yards of second color)

    One 16" circular needle and one set of DPNs in US size 7 (or size needed for gauge of 5 sts per inch)

    Stitch markers (6)

    Gauge: 5 stitches per inch in stockinette

    Before the class:

    Using appropriate size needles (for a gauge of 5 sts. per inch in stockinette), cast on 96 stitches. Join and place marker.

    Work your choice of brims:

    1. Rolled Brim:

    ο‚§ Work in stockinette (knit all stitches on each round) for 3”.

    2. Ribbed Brim:

    *K2, P2*, then repeat between * and * until end of round. Repeat until hat reaches 1” in height.

    ο‚§ Then work in stockinette (knit all stitches on each round) until hat reaches 1¾” in height (1” ribbed + ΒΎ inches in stockinette = 1¾” total).

  • RIBBING

    With smaller needles, US 6 16”

    cast on 72 (96, 96, 120) sts. Place marker for beg of rnd, and join to work in the rnd, being careful not to twist.

    RND 1: P2, k2; rep from to end. Rep RND 1 until hat measures 1 (1, 2, 2)” [2.5 (2.5, 5, 5)cm] from cast-on.

  • Sample Sock Pre Work

    Materials and Gauge Information:

    Approx. 60 yds. of DK (#3) or Worsted (#4) weight yarn (this makes 1 sample sock)

    4 double point needles in Size 4 for DK or Size 6 for Worsted weight yarn

    Gauge isn’t used for this sample

    BEFORE THE CLASS:

    Cast On: Cast on 36 sts loosely.

    Divide sts on 3 double point needles as follows:

    Needle 1: 9 heel sts.

    Needle 2: 18 instep sts.

    Needle 3: 9 heel sts.

    Join. BOR (Beginning of Round) and knit one round.

    Cuff: *k1,p1* repeat around for 3 rounds

    Leg: Switch to plain knitting for 2 more rounds.

    On round 2, knit the stitches on Needles 1 & 2 and then stop

  • Needles and Yarn-

    US 6 16”circ-DK Weight #3

    US 7 Circ-Worsted Weight #4

    Please Cast on 120 (144, 168) sts in your border color. Join to work in the round being careful not to twist sts. Place marker for beginning of round.

    Work 1Γ—1 or 2Γ—2 rib for 1.5in

  • Suggested Needles US 4/3.5 mm or size needed to obtain gauge 16 in [40 cm] circular needles NOTE: DPNs of the same size required for working the small circumference at the toe of the stocking

    Using a long tail cast on (or preferred method), cast on 72 (96) sts in cuff color. Place marker for BOR and join in the round, being careful not to twist sts.

    UPPER CUFF Work 2x2 Ribbing. k2, p2, repeat from to end of round. Work the ribbing for approx. 1.5 in [4 cm]. After completing the cuff, Knit 1 round in cuff color, placing a marker every 24 sts.Item description

  • With the white yarn and your smaller needle, cast on to make the size you wish from the table below. Place a marker and join without twisting to knit in the round. Rounds 1, 2, and 3: Purl each stitch around. Cut the white yarn, leaving a tail for weaving in later.

    Cast-on number for worsted weight

    17.5” Cast on 88

    21” Cast on 104

    23.5 Cast on 116

  • Worsted Weight -Size H – 5.0 mm hook Smaller size wrap can be made with DK weight yarn and size 4.5 hook Gauge for wrap shown: 15 sts x 21 rows = 4” Yarn needed: 232g/500 yds main color (MC) 28g/60 yds for 4 smallest leaves 32g/70 yds for 4 medium leaves 60g/126 yds for 4 largest leaves 53g/112 yds for center leaf

    In main color Ch 240+1 for turning chain.

  • Hook US F 3.75mm or size to obtain gauge.

    Gauge= 23dc in block stitch pattern 4” and 14 rounds of Block stitch pattern (8 dc rounds and 8 sc rounds)=4” Gauge is not critical for this project but will affect yardage and size.
