Set the table with something handmade! There is nothing quite as satisfying as seeing your handwoven fabric in use every day. In this intensive 4-hour workshop, you’ll learn how to design and weave a beautiful set of matching placemats that add a touch of artisanal charm to any meal.
We will dive into the specifics of planning a multi-item project, focusing on consistent beat and tension to ensure your "pair" actually looks like a pair! From choosing durable fibers to achieving clean selvedges, this class is the perfect way to transition from weaving simple scarves to creating functional home decor.
Project Planning: Calculating warp and weft for multiple items on a single warp.
Design & Symmetry: Creating repeating patterns or stripes that match across both placemats.
Texture & Durability: Selecting the best yarns for table linens that are both beautiful and washable.
Finishing Touches: Hemstitching techniques and how to properly finish your edges for long-lasting use.
Duration: 4 Hours
Skill Level: Intermediate (Must be able to warp a loom independently).
Requirement: Students must bring their own Rigid Heddle Loom (at least 15" wide) and accessories.
Materials: 15” Rigid Heddle Loom, 10 dent reed (we can make 8 dent work too.) Worsted Weight Cotton-2 or 3 colors
**Weaver’s Tip: Woven placemats make incredible gifts! Once you master the "Dinner for Two" setup, you'll have the skills to warp for a full set of six or eight.
