Brioche Skills 2

Brioche Skills 2

Type: Technique, Project

Length: 2 hours

Instructor: Staff

Class Fee: $25

Prerequisite:

Must be comfortable with Brioche Knit and Brioche Purl stitches and have completed one or two brioche projects. Should also understand and be able to follow a basic brioche pattern.

Description:

Are you an innovative thinker and wonder how to express that in your brioche knitting? Brioche is a fun stitch to let run wild. If you can track increases and decreases, you can make your brioche meander wherever it wants to, or where you want it to go. However, there are some things to consider when you step out of the world of patterns and let the knitting talk to you as you work your piece. This class is not for you if you like all of your stitches and patterns to be symmetrical, or you like to do math and charts for your knitting.

This is for those that want to venture off the grid and explore what happens when you make decisions as you knit, rather than working from a pre-planned structured concept. With some tips, tricks, a bit of magic and guidance, you CAN create a one-of-a-kind brioche design for yourself. I’ll bring the magic and you bring the willingness to β€œPlay & Listen to your project” and together we will discover the maze of Brioche Wonder.

Knitting Skills 3

Type: Technique

Length: 2 hours

Instructor: Staff

Class Fee: $25

Prerequisite: Build Your Knitting Skills 2

Description:

In this Build Your Knitting Skills session, we will explore in further depth the language of knitting patterns and abbreviations and how to read them, as well as the importance of reading through patterns and checking for mistakes before you start knitting.

Next you will work a sample swatch with different cable patterns in it, finally learning the secret the more experienced knitters know about cables. The swatch pattern is provided in both written and charted formats, so this is another opportunity to practice working from written patterns and maybe a first chance to work from a chart.

Then you will compare the properties of cables with several other stitch patterns, and see how their differences can affect a larger project. Next, you will learn how to pick up and knit stitches along the edge of your cable swatch.

In the final step, you will explore different ways to block your work, because eventually you will want to try your hand at blocking something wonderful you have knitted.

To practice what you’ve learned, we will send you home with a pattern for a cute and cozy hat with a cabled brim.

Participants need to purchase or bring the following supplies when they come to class:

Learn To Spin on A Wheel

Learn to Spin

Type: Technique

Length: 3 hours

Instructor: Staff

Class Fee: $35

Description:

In its simplest form, spinning is a way to make your own yarn. More than that, though, it is an opportunity to design and create your own β€œewe-nique” yarn from an incredible variety of fibers and colors, textures and techniques.

Bring your own wheel, or reserve one of our wheels for use during the class. Spinning on a drop spindle will be discussed briefly, and private classes are available for spindlespinning. However, the focus of this class is wheel spinning.

Spinning is a relaxing, inspiring and fulfilling art form. Join us, learn to spin, and find out for yourself!

Participants need to purchase or bring the following supplies when they come to class:

  • 4 ounces of wool fiber (come a few minutes early to buy the recommended fiber, instructor will help)

Optional items participants can bring to class if they have them:

  • Spinning wheel in good working condition

    • If you don’t own a wheel, our spinning wheels are available for you to use during the classes.

Please register for all classes at least 24 hours in advance.

Brioche Skills 2

Type: Technique, Project

Length: 2 hours

Instructor: Staff

Class Fee: $25

Prerequisite: Must be comfortable with Brioche Knit and Brioche Purl stitches and have completed one or two brioche projects.

Participants need to purchase or bring the following supplies when they come to class:

(Please arrive a few minutes early to purchase your materials.)

  • Pre-work for class: Cast on and knit border of cowl worked according to the instructions provided at registration

Build Your Knitting Skills 3

(Please arrive a few minutes early to purchase your materials.)

  • 1 skein of Cascade 220 or Cascade 220 Superwash yarn

  • Scissors

  • Cable Needle

Participants need to purchase or bring the following supplies when they come to class:

(Please arrive a few minutes early to purchase your materials.)

  • Pre-work for class: Cast on and knit border of cowl worked according to the instructions provided at registration
